The youth of Afghanistan are currently facing extensive problems in social, economic, educational and psychological fields. Some of their most important current problems are:

  1. Unemployment and lack of job opportunities

    • One of the biggest problems of Afghanistan’s youth is widespread unemployment and lack of suitable job opportunities. With the reduction of foreign investments, the suspension of many companies and the withdrawal of international forces, the labor market in Afghanistan has been severely limited. Young people who have completed their education or even have technical skills are facing the problem of lack of employment.
  2. Limited access to training

    • In the Taliban regime, especially for girls and women, access to education has faced serious restrictions. Schools and universities are closed for girls in many areas and even boys are unable to continue their studies due to poverty or fear of insecurity. This situation has caused many young people to be deprived of the right to education.
  3. Insecurity and violence

  • Afghan youth are exposed to various violence, including violence caused by rebel groups such as ISIS and internal conflicts. Also, many young people suffer from psychological insecurity, because the future of the country and their personal lives are uncertain.
  1. Emigration and fleeing the country

    • Due to economic and security problems, many young people seek to immigrate to other countries. Illegal immigration and trying to leave the country at any cost has become one of the common ways for young people. This causes problems such as human trafficking, loss of life during migration, and even psychological problems after migration.
  2. Lack of social and individual freedoms

    • Afghan youths are facing severe restrictions on social and personal freedoms. The Taliban’s strict laws have affected their daily lives and many of the freedoms that young people had to express their opinions, dress, artistic and cultural activities have been limited.

  3. Mental problems and stress

    • Living in war conditions and permanent insecurity has created stress and psychological problems for young people. The lack of access to health services and psychological counseling has also added to this situation. Anxiety, depression, and fear of the future have become part of the daily life of many young people in Afghanistan.
  4. Poverty and economic problems of families

    • Many young people have to support their families due to poverty. This causes them to be deprived of suitable educational and job opportunities and turn to low-paying jobs or even difficult and dangerous jobs such as working in mines or drug trafficking.
  5. Lack of recreational and cultural facilities

  • The youth of Afghanistan suffer from the lack of recreational and cultural facilities. The lack of sports spaces, libraries, cinemas and other cultural and artistic centers has caused them to be deprived of healthy and fun activities and become monotonous and disillusioned.
  1. Lack of participation in decisions
    • Young people are often excluded from political and social decision-making processes. The lack of voice of the youth at the management and government levels has caused their needs and demands to be ignored in policy making.

These problems show that the youth of Afghanistan are facing many challenges in the current situation and they need domestic and international support to overcome these problems.
