Afghanistan’s agriculture is facing many problems that have negatively affected agricultural production and the economic status of farmers. Among the important problems are:

  1. Water shortage: Frequent droughts and lack of sufficient irrigation resources are one of the biggest problems of Afghanistan’s agriculture. The lack of modern and effective irrigation systems reduces the productivity of crops.

  2. Insecurity: In many areas, insecurity prevents farmers from accessing their lands as well as markets to sell their products. This issue has led to a decrease in crop production in some areas.

  3. Lack of infrastructure: The lack of proper roads, warehouses and modern agricultural equipment makes the process of production and distribution of products difficult. This issue causes the products to not reach the market on time or to be damaged.

  4. Limited access to markets: The lack of suitable domestic and foreign markets as well as export challenges cause crops to be sold at a lower price and reduce farmers’ income.

  5. Lack of fertilizer and modified seeds: Many farmers do not have access to modified seeds and suitable fertilizers. This problem has a negative effect on the quality and quantity of products.

  6. Lack of training and technical support: Farmers often do not have access to new knowledge and training in the field of agricultural techniques. Lack of proper training leads to improper use of resources and reduced productivity.

  7. Climate Changes: Climate changes such as temperature rise and rainfall instability have created additional problems for farmers, as traditional patterns of planting and harvesting have been disrupted.

These problems cause agriculture to face serious challenges as one of the main sources of livelihood in Afghanistan.
