Afghan people face many problems in the cold season, which have serious effects on their daily life. Some of the main problems in winter are:

  1. Lack of fuel for heating

    • One of the biggest problems of people in winter is the lack of fuel for heating. Many families cannot afford wood, coal, or LPG. Also, in some remote areas it is difficult to access fuel sources due to blocked roads or high prices.
  2. power shortage

    • The lack of electricity, which is a constant problem in Afghanistan, becomes more critical in winter. Due to the reduction of electricity production from water sources and the interruption of electricity imports from neighboring countries, many areas, especially in the provinces, face frequent and long-term power outages, which makes life more difficult for people in the cold.
  3. Blocked roads

    • Heavy snowfall and frost block roads and communication routes, especially in mountainous areas. This issue makes it difficult to transfer essential goods, access to medical services and even the daily movement of people.
  4. Lack of food

    • In winter, access to food is reduced due to blocked roads and increased prices. Many families are unable to buy enough food due to poverty and unemployment and face malnutrition and hunger.
  5. Health and medical issues

    • Extreme cold and lack of access to suitable heating facilities increase seasonal diseases such as colds, flu and respiratory diseases. Also, limited access to medical centers due to blocked roads and lack of medicines make the situation worse.
  6. Homelessness and the situation of displaced people

    • In winter, the homeless and IDPs who live in tents or temporary housing face severe cold and lack of proper heating devices. These people are more exposed to frostbite and cold-related diseases.
  7. Increasing unemployment and poverty

    • In winter, many seasonal jobs stop and job opportunities become less, which increases unemployment and poverty among people. The lack of sufficient income in this season makes it difficult for families to provide the basic necessities of life.
  8. Lack of proper shelter

  • Many people in Afghanistan live in non-standard and weak houses that do not have proper insulation to prevent cold penetration. This condition is especially dangerous for children and the elderly and causes the aggravation of diseases and physical problems.
  1. Educational problems

    • Severe cold and lack of heating facilities in schools cause many schools to be closed in the winter season. Students in areas with particularly poorer economic conditions are left out of school or have to attend cold classes in very difficult conditions.

  2. Increase in prices

  • In winter, the price of food, fuel and other essential goods increases. This issue creates more pressure especially for poor families who face financial problems throughout the year.

Conclusion:
The cold season creates great challenges for the people of Afghanistan due to the combination of poverty, lack of resources, infrastructural problems and geographical conditions. To reduce these problems, there is a need for long-term planning in the field of infrastructure, social services, and immediate assistance from the government and humanitarian organizations.
