Agriculture is one of the main pillars of Afghanistan’s economy and it has a great contribution to provide the livelihood and income of the people of this country. About 70 percent of Afghanistan’s population is engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. Agricultural products such as wheat, barley, rice, fruits, vegetables and saffron are among the major agricultural products of this country.

Afghanistan has a high capacity to produce crops due to its favorable climatic conditions and fertile lands, especially in the northern and central regions. In recent years, products such as saffron and dried fruits of Afghanistan have entered the international markets and the importance of their export has increased.

However, the agriculture sector in Afghanistan is facing challenges such as lack of water, lack of modern technology, lack of proper infrastructure and security. Weak support from the government and lack of access to larger markets are also among the other problems of agriculture in this country.

Agricultural professions in Afghanistan are facing agricultural problems

Yes, agricultural professionals in Afghanistan are facing many problems in the agriculture sector. Some of these problems are:

  1. Water shortage and drought: Many regions of Afghanistan are facing a shortage of water resources and successive droughts, which reduce the production of crops.

  2. Lack of modern technology and agricultural tools: Agriculture in Afghanistan is mainly done in traditional ways. Lack of modern agricultural technology and tools leads to low productivity.

  3. Lack of suitable infrastructure: The lack of sufficient infrastructure to transport products to domestic and international markets is one of the biggest challenges for agricultural professionals. This issue causes rapid spoilage of products and decrease in income.

  4. Security problems: The lack of security in many agricultural areas, especially rural areas, has made it impossible for agricultural professionals to continue their activities safely. This situation has also limited access to resources and markets.

  5. Lack of access to markets: Farmers in Afghanistan often face problems in selling their products. Low price and lack of suitable markets to sell products is one of their major problems.

  6. Lack of government aid and support: Government and international aid to agriculturists is not enough in many cases. The government has not taken enough measures in terms of providing financial facilities, technical assistance and marketing support.

  7. Pests and diseases: The lack of sufficient knowledge about the management of pests and plant diseases has also damaged the production of agricultural products.

These problems have caused farmers to not be able to use the full potential of their land and earn good income.
