Afghanistan’s security under the Taliban regime

Security in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime is facing many issues and challenges. Although the Taliban claim to have established control and security throughout the country, reports and evidence suggest that serious security problems remain. In the following, some aspects of security in Afghanistan under the Taliban government will be discussed:

  1. Insecurity and armed attacks
    Some areas of Afghanistan are still facing armed attacks, bombings and local conflicts. Armed groups opposed to the Taliban, including ISIS Khorasan, continue to carry out terrorist attacks, causing security concerns in various regions of the country.

  2. Human rights and civil liberties
    The Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on human rights, especially women’s rights and civil liberties. There are reports of human rights violations, arbitrary arrests, torture and executions without trial.

  3. Corruption and administrative instability
    The absence of strong government structures and corruption in administrative institutions have caused a decrease in public trust in the Taliban government and increased instability in the country. These security issues can negatively affect people’s daily lives.

  4. Economic insecurity
    Afghanistan’s economy is facing serious problems under the Taliban regime. A decrease in international aid, an increase in unemployment and poverty, and a lack of foreign investment have caused economic instability that can lead to social and security unrest.

  5. Restrictions on media freedom
    The media are facing severe restrictions under the Taliban regime. Many journalists have faced threats, arrest and even murder. This issue reduces transparency and information in society and can negatively affect public security.6.

    The Taliban are also facing security challenges caused by regional and international movements. Relations with neighboring countries and other world powers can affect the country’s security situation. Any regional tension or conflict can also affect Afghanistan’s internal security.

  7. Refugee and immigration crisis
    Insecurity and instability have increased the number of Afghan refugees and migrants to neighboring countries and other parts of the world. This situation can cause more humanitarian and security problems.

To improve the security situation in Afghanistan, there is a need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach from the Taliban and the international community, which includes strengthening human rights, creating stable government structures, improving the economic situation, and increasing regional and international cooperation.
