The nomads of Afghanistan are one of the important and historical strata of this country, who mainly lead a nomadic and animal husbandry life. However, they face many problems and challenges that affect their daily lives. Some of the main problems and difficulties of nomads include the following:

  1. Lack of access to educational services

    • One of the major problems of nomads is the lack of access to proper education. Due to the nomadic way of life and frequent relocations, nomadic children usually drop out of school and there are not enough educational facilities for them.
  2. Lack of healthcare services

    • Limited access to health and treatment centers is another serious challenge for nomads. Many nomads live in remote and inaccessible areas, which makes it difficult for them to seek medical care.
  3. Lack of water resources

  • Providing water for livestock as well as drinking water for the nomads themselves is one of their vital issues. The lack of water resources, especially during the dry season, poses serious problems to the nomadic life.
  1. Economic and livelihood problems
  • Nomads are dependent on livestock and any reduction in the number of livestock or drought can severely affect their economic life. Fluctuations in the price of livestock and livestock products also add to their livelihood challenges.
  1. Conflict over land and pastures
Another problem faced by the nomads is local disputes over access to pastures and grazing lands. These disputes, which sometimes lead to violent clashes, threaten the security of the lives of the nomads.

  2. Lack of access to amenities

  • Due to their mobile lifestyle, the nomads are often deprived of amenities such as electricity, roads, and other urban services. This has caused them to be deprived of many basic facilities compared to other sections of the society.
  1. Effect of climate change

    • Climate changes and continuous droughts in recent years have affected pastures and natural resources and made the life of the nomads more difficult. They have to move more and face more difficult conditions to keep their livestock.
  2. Discrimination and lack of attention of the government

    • Nomads often complain about the government’s lack of attention to their issues. They believe that their needs and problems are given less attention than other sections of the society and they are marginalized in the development programs of the country.

These issues have caused Afghan nomads to face serious challenges in providing the basic needs of their lives, and many of them are dissatisfied with the lack of sufficient support from the government and society.
